The Indian and the two wolves

A long time ago there was an old and wise Indian. And as common it was for indians in that time they sat and ate their dinner with the entire family in the big tipi. During dinner a grandson asked the old and wise indian: “Grandfather, can you tell us a story!?”

And so the old and wise Indian started to tell a story. “When I was young there was a big fight going on in my mind,” he said to the boy

“It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.” He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.”

The little boy thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”

The old Indian simply replied, “The one you feed.”
